7th Passau Data Summit:Why “AI-ready data” is the key to successful AI: PasDaS 2025 shows the path to scaling
Passau, 3 April 2025 – Since 2016, the Passau Data Summit (PasDaS) has been bringing together leading international companies – including BioNTech, Celonis, thyssenkrupp Steel and Siemens Healthineers this year – with the scientific community to explore how the world can become more efficient, smarter and better through the use of data, artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics. Under the motto “Scale. SustAIn. Shape”, the Summit is taking its mission one step further this year: in 2025, the data conference will focus in particular on how data products can use artificial intelligence to sustainably scale companies and transform entire industries.
Data is the foundation for innovation and this year the Passau Data Summit is focussing on three central pillars: Scale – because good ideas need to grow, SustAIn – because innovation should be sustainable and AI is the key to success, Shape – because the future of data doesn’t just happen, we create it.
“We are no longer just analysing data, we are turning it into products – scalable, reusable and designed to drive decisions across all industries. At the same time, companies that successfully utilise AI are already achieving up to 20% higher profit margins than their competitors and can reduce their operating costs by at least 20%. But the key to this is AI-ready data: 64% of companies are struggling with petabytes of siloed data that are slowing down their scaling efforts. If you want to fully exploit the potential of AI, you have to overcome these hurdles,” emphasises Dr. Andreas Böhm, founder and CEO of One Data GmbH, adding: “I am therefore delighted that top-class experts from business and science will once again be speaking at PasDaS about how they are using AI, data and data products to increase efficiency and drive innovation.”
In addition, Achim Berg, who in the past was a board member of T-Com and Bertelsmann, head of Microsoft Germany and President of the digital association Bitkom and is now Chairman of the Advisory Board of One Data, among other things, took a comprehensive look at the EU AI Act: “The EU urgently needs to adapt its AI regulation so as not to slow down innovation. The EU AI Act places high demands on companies, which is associated with considerable compliance costs and bureaucratic hurdles. A flexible ‘regulatory sandbox’ could help to test and develop new technologies more quickly. We need a balance between ethical standards and the promotion of innovation in order to make Europe fit for the future as an AI centre. Only through closer cooperation between politics, business and research can we ensure that Europe not only protects consumers, but also remains a leading player in global AI development.”
Sebastian Lieu, Head of Governance, Process and System Development at thyssenkrupp Steel, focussed on the scaling effect of data products in his presentation: “At the Passau Data Summit, we are demonstrating that data products are the key to thyssenkrupp Steel’s ability to act with foresight in the future: Data products are the key that will enable thyssenkrupp Steel to act with foresight in the future. Using them in our daily business enables us to free up tied-up capital and at the same time ensure our reliability – a decisive factor for our green transformation.”
From a scientific perspective, Prof. Dr Michael Granitzer, holder of the Chair of Data Science at the University of Passau, emphasises the following aspects: “With this year’s PasDaS, we are once again sending out a clear signal: Data expertise, AI and responsible innovation belong together – and Passau is a place where this is lived. I am already looking forward to exciting presentations and the exchange between science and business on the topics of data products, AI and immersive analytics.”
Dr Andreas Böhm founded PasDaS in 2016 together with Prof Dr Michael Granitzer.
